Well, how things can change. Having found that beautiful cottage in Ireland on the internet Sherry’s mind obviously went into overdrive – she has always wanted to live in a country cottage, with fresh air, beautiful scenery and one day children running around causing merry mayhem. Knowing that her lawfirm were making cutbacks, and the payoffs were going to be very generous, she started making inquiries about volunteering for redundancy. She was told that she could put her name forward but there would be no guarantees as to whether she was accepted or not. The last 2 weeks have been hell. The waiting game. It has also been very surreal, she found herself in the position of being just as stressed and nervous as everyone else at the firm but because she wanted to go, not because she was worrying about keeping her job. It didn’t make it any easier though, and to be honest she has been a complete nightmare to live with! Constant stressing and “what ifs”, snapping my head off for no reason then apologising and crying because she knew she was being totally unreasonable.
Anyway, thankfully she was successful, and is currently trying to readjust to being a lady of leisure, while finding us somewhere to live in Ireland that will fulfill all her country cottage dreams. To be honest we are spoilt for choice, its so different to the rental market in the UK. I think she is finding it hard to get her head round the fact she doesn’t have to go back to work, I keep seeing the odd flash of panic in her eyes when she realises its way past midnight and she is still up reading or watching some rubbish film. Then she smiles and that smile is usually followed by “honey, I don’t have to go to work tomorrow, lalalalalaaa”. Bless her little cottons!
